Why do I need a pre-season service?

A pre-season service can help assure your first outing in the spring will be a safe and enjoyable one.  It also should help make sure that you have a trouble free boating year.

These service generally consist of making sure all cooling system drain plugs and hoses are properly secure with no broken clamps and refill and check any other water systems.

If the fuel has sat in the boat for an extended period of time the fuel system may need service.  If there is water present in the system the tank must be cleaned to assure trouble free boating.  Fuel filters will be replaced.

Change the engine oil and filters.  Change outdrive/lower unit gear oil and inspect for water intrusion, check engine alignment, u-joints, rubber bellows, inspect cooling system and change water pump impeller.  If there is a transmission, change the lubricating fluid and inspect for proper operation.  Check and inspect all steering and engine control cables.

Check engine compression, check and adjust timing and fuel mixture if applicable, also verify proper RPM.

Assure that the 12 volt starting and charging systems are operating properly.  Check electrical connections to make sure they are free of corrosion.  Check all 12 volt electrical systems such as the bilge pumps and blowers, navigation lights, accessory lighting, gage cluster, and other pumps and 12 volt accessories.
