My boat won't idle or runs rough

Boy!  This could be caused by a lot of different things.

First thing probably is to check the fuel.  Do you have any?  If so and your boat has been sitting a while without being prepped for storage the fuel might just be bad.  Another problem we have here in the South is condensation.  A partially full tank can condense water vapor into liquid water which is why you should fill your tank(s) after every use.  By the way, if you have a vehicle or any other gasoline powered equipment that often sits for a week or so between use this can be a problem for it also.  The less fuel in a tank the more room for condensation.  And we all know how well water burns in an engine.

If the fuel seems good and it is reaching the engine then I would check the electrical system.  Is it getting a strong spark?  Be careful checking this.  Having your hand in the wrong place while turning over the engine can be a shocking experience.  If it is getting fuel and a good strong spark then you are going to need a professional marine mechanic unless you are gifted in this area.

If there is a weak spark then, again, there are a multitude of things.  Diagnosing this kind of a problem would be impossible here.  There are just too many different configurations.  Outboards or inboards/sterndrives, carburetors or fuel injected, points and distributor or electronic ignition, and so on.  The best thing for both of us is for you to give us a call.  We can give fast service and a reasonable price combined with the convince of coming to you.
